Shopping

There are no shopping facilities within walking distance of the apartment. In Langnau, however, there is the Ilfiscenter with a Coop, a pharmacy and so on, a Migros MM, the small organic food store Pfifouter, the zero-waste shop Frischpunkt and various specialist stores. Every Friday from 8 am to 11:30 am, the weekly market with mainly organic, seasonal and regional products is held on the Langnau Viehmarkt (cattle market square). There is a Denner and the farm shop Chäsi Wasen farm store in Wasen. In addition to the Gruyère cheese from the Fritzenhaus cheese dairy, which was crowned world champion in 2020 and 2022, there are many other regional delicacies to buy. Further there are many more different types of cheese, other dairy products, meat, vegetables, bread, and so on. In fact, everything one could need for everyday use. The self-service farm shop is open daily from 6 am to 9 pm.

Wellness

To round off a day in the mountains, either after a long and strenuous hike or a cozy snowy day on the sofa, guests are welcome to use the sauna for CHF 25.00 per use. We charge a fee of CHF 10.00 per person for hiring the sauna equipment (bathrobe, sauna towel, sauna slippers and warm woollen socks). Of course, you may also use your own equipment.

The Aemme-fit GmbH in Lützelflüh has a brine bath, the Romantik Hotel Bären in Dürrenroth has a lovely wellness area and the Hammam & Spa Oktogon in Bern is a wonderful place for a few relaxing hours.

Leisure

In addition to countless hiking and biking trails that lead right past the house, the region of theEmmental offers a wide range of leisure activities, such as the Franz Gertsch Museum in Burgdorf, the art gallery Galerie Dürrenroth, the lovely shop and museum of the cookie factory Kambly Erlebnis in Trubschachen, the castles of Trachselwald and Burgdorf, the cinema cooperative Kinogenossenschaft Langnau with its alternative film programme in the Kupferschmiede in Langnau or the regional museum "Chüechlihus" in Langnau i. E. For a cold beer or a glass of wine in a cosy atmosphere, we recommend the Café Bar Käpt'n Holger in Langnau, where concerts, readings and other events also take place regularly. On weekdays, "Zum Topf" serves vegetarian dishes at lunchtime. For sports fans, a home game of the SCL Tigers, the only provincial club in Switzerland's top ice hockey league, is well worth a visit. In Langnau there is a indoor and outdoor swimming pool called "Moos". Lucerne, Bern and Thun are just a one hour's drive from the accommodation.

Dining

Our kitchens are well equipped with everything you need to cook. Nevertheless, sometimes it's nice to be treated - especially on vacation. We can recommend the following restaurants full-hearted:

• Romantik Hotel Bären, Dürrenroth. Housed in three historic Emmental buildings from the late Baroque period, the hotel impresses with interesting food creations in a wonderful atmosphere. 
• Alpwirtschaft Hinterarni, Wasen i. E. The alpine restaurant at 1222 m above sea level can be seen from Lüderenalp and is in no way inferior to it in terms of the view. Rustic, hearty cuisine in a cozy atmosphere.
• Gourmet Kitchen, Burgdorf. Located in the heart of the old town of Burgdorf, this restaurant has an interesting philosophy. The Kurdish-born chef conjures up oriental dishes with local organic products. The entire team is made up of refugees who have been given the chance to integrate professionally and learn the German language. Part of the food costs go directly towards language training for the employees.
• Wirtshaus Grütli, Wasen i. E. A traditional country inn in the middle of Wasen. "Homely and cozy according to grandma's cookbook" at very fair prices. Fridays and Saturdays they serve a buffet and occasionally entertain with traditional Swiss folk music.
• Gasthof Bären, Langnau i. E. This cooperative-run hotel was first mentioned in 1432. They offer traditional Swiss classics as well as exciting and creative creations. The selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes is exceptionally large.
• Gasthof Kuttelbad, Wasen i. E. The Kuttelbad was rated "excellent" in the "best experience locations" category of the 2023 Swiss Location Award. The inn, which stands in the middle of the forest, can be seen from Lüderenalp and due to its location it feels like something from another world.
• Wiesner Mysterion, Romoos. The wizzard at his new place of power in nature on the Bramboden. In his restaurant at 1000 m above sea level, which has been awarded 17 Gault & Millau points, nature is packed into dishes. Instant forest floor soup, onions baked on hay or pear wood ice cream are just some of his unusual creations...
• Hotel Hirschen, Langnau i. E. From uncomplicated bistro delights to culinary highlights à la carte, from traditional hearty cuisine to exquisite dishes, the Hirschen offers the whole range in a pleasant atmosphere.
• Wasen Pizza, Wasen i. E. If you don't feel like driving anywhere but don't want to cook yourself, you can order a pizza from Ali and have it delivered to the Kobelhüttli.

Visitor's Tax

A visitor's tax is also due in the municipality of Langnau. For the year 2024, this is set at CHF 1.00 per adult aged 16 and older per sleepover. We kindly ask you to bring the money for the visitor's tax with you in cash at check-in.
